Bastille 2013

Bastille Arts was founded to create and promote stories about modern-day heroes.  Our stories often explore social justice issues, such as mental illness, the prison system, immigration, political corruption, and many other lighthearted topics.

This year our writer celebrated Bastille Day by witnessing a truly awesome annual tradition in Philadelphia.  The Bearded Ladies, a cabaret troupe, reenacted the storming of the Bastille outside the front of the Eastern State Penitentiary.

The musical review was narrated by Edith Piaf and introduced other characters such as, Joan of Arc, Napoleon, Benjamin Franklin, Marie Antoinette, and a life-size French Baguette.  The audience played the part of the revolting mob and was pelted by hundreds of Tastykakes.

To quote our writer, “You haven’t lived until you’ve been pelted by a storm of Tastykakes.”

Hopefully, this sugary slogging will inspire her to write more comedy this year.
